Wise Words for Brides and Grooms

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Just discovered this article and thought it was very wise…nothing like hearing it from a 25-year veteran!

“I was freaking out. I went to bed the night before, freaking out. What was I doing? What was he doing? We were 26, and we were getting married. It was such a bad idea – clearly we were too young. Everybody knows the true best age for a first marriage is 45…”

Platinum for Pennies: Candle Table

Monday, March 30th, 2009

With our recession brides in mind, we’ve created a new type of post called Platinum for Pennies.  Enjoy!

On a recent visit to a florist, I spied a gorgeous table filled with oversized silver candlesticks in varying styles like the photo below.  It’s a simple, yet inspired approach to decor and lighting and a great way to display your escort cards, guest book or favors.  But, it’s tough to find beautiful candlesticks on a budget.

Enter your friend and mine: Ikea! For the bargain price of $8 to $10 each (depending on size), you can fill a table with their expensive-looking “Skimmer” candles without breaking your budget.  Still out of your budget? Raid your nearest Salvation Army and pick up candle holders there for around $1 each and mix and match.

A Brilliant Event: Havana Nights

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

We designed a festive holiday party for Reval, a financial software company here in New York, where a ”Havana Nights” Cuban theme spiced up the frosty December evening.

Guests arrived at the Harbor Room of Battery Gardens Restaurant and were greeted by butler-passed mojitos and festive music by DJ Medina, Manhattan’s hottest latin music DJ.  The room was illuminated with vibrant pinks and greens thanks to Prestige Lighting and tables boasted centerpieces of tall cylinder vases filled with limes and monstera leaves.

Bright pink table runners combined with lime napkins from Cloth Connection created a sizzling contrast to the centerpieces and a perfect replica of a 1950s Cadillac was made by TracyCakes for all to enjoy.  La Rosa Cubana provided hand-rolled cigars throughout the evening while guests dined on traditional Cuban fare. After dinner all were entertained by Fuákata, a Cuban Salsa-Casino dance performance group directed by Christopher Rogicki.

Immediately following the performance, guests were invited to learn salsa from the experts with a mini dance lesson and put their new-found skills to the test the rest of the evening!  At the end of the evening, each guest was given a Cuban music CD so they could continue their salsa dancing at home!

Linens to Make Your Colors Pop!

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

One of the best decisions a bride/groom/host can make to really make their event look “custom” is to have specialty linens. For those who are regular watchers of Platinum Weddings or any of the other reality shows, you’ll notice that this is an element that is always included in their decor! And, renting of 1 tablecloth per table is surprisingly affordable! Take a look at the photos below to see the difference colored linens make in the look and feel of your wedding or event.

A Brilliant Wedding: Thomas & Christina (Part 3 of 3)

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

The personalities of the financial controller bride and NYPD sergeant groom really shone through in their reception choices. Favors were scrolls noting that a donation was made in their guests’ name to the American Cancer Society in honor of Christina’s late mother. The featured dinner entree of Guinness-braised beef was inspired by their shared Irish heritage, their unique cake topper displayed their fiesty nature and their love was reflected in the romantic centerpieces consisting of giant hurricane vases filled with wine colored candles and classic rose petals in autumn hues surrounded in tealights.

Thank you to the happy couple for letting us be part of your special day!  A warm congratulations from all of us at Brilliant Event Planning!

A Brilliant Wedding: Thomas and Christina (2 of 3)

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Here are some more photos to feast your eyes on from this stunning fall wedding! Christina chose a classic bouquet of “Freedom” red roses to coordinate with the autumn color palette and gold boutonnieres for the groomsmen.  The entire inn was adorned with autumn decorations which complemented the vibrant colors on the trees surrounding the outdoor ceremony.
