Central Park Proposal, Part 2 of 2

Roy’s classic NYC proposal at the Ladies Pavilion in Central Park was followed by a private horse-drawn carriage tour around Central Park. Afterwards, they were whisked away to rink-side views and red wine at Rockefeller Center’s Morrell Wine Bar. Their perfect evening ended with a candlelit dinner at the exclusive Upstairs at the 21 Club.

Central Park Proposal, Part 1 of 2

When I received Roy’s heartfelt email all the way from Indiana with his wish to create a perfect, classic NYC proposal for Michele, it was an honor to help make it come true. We chose the Ladies Pavilion in Central Park for the location because it holds a very special meaning for Michele.

And, since she is all about the “moment,” we designed the proposal around the concept of creating an art gallery of their love story.We used cream-colored french memo boards to display cards, photos and mementos of their lives together so far and invited 2 professional vocalists to perform Michele’s favorite songs from West Side Story.

The pavilion was decorated to reflect the festive holiday season with the help of the talented and kind Juan from Juan M. Villanueva Designs. The garland was made from winter foliage, evergreens and accented with holly berries, and the entrance was framed by bright red amaryllis. New York City Proposal: Francesco & Cynthia

This New York City proposal was all romance! The penthouse at the Hudson Hotel was lavishly decorated in a palette of deep reds and purples and filled to the brim with flowers from Rountree Flowers…one for each day since the happy couple met. The groom-to-be composed a song especially for the occasion which was performed live on acoustic guitar by Goro & Marcelo. These spectacular shots are by Zlatko Batistich. Congratulations to Francesco & Cynthia!

Rockefeller Center: Engagement on Ice

For anyone looking for the quintessential New York City engagement, this is IT!

The Ice Rink at Rockefeller Center has just announced the start of the Engagement on Ice season! For a cool $250 you get front-of-the-line access – as the skating session ends and the other skaters exit the ice, your song will begin to play. As soon as the lucky person says “Yes!” the rink staff will deliver a bouquet and the newly-engaged couple can take a final ”victory lap” around the rink. To complete the romantic proposal the couple heads to a reserved, rink-side table at Rock Center Cafe for a champagne toast to their future together!

Proposal Pointers: The “Singers’ Surprise”

This proposal is for: The Romantic Girl. She loves fairytale endings and Cinderella stories.

Set the stage: A surprise trip to New York City

The place: A tiny hole-in-the wall NYC restaurant, sparsely lit with a few flickering candles and packed with people. You come in from the cold weather and find the perfect table in the far back.

The Proposal: Unbeknownst to your girlfriend, all of your fellow diners are your hired accomplices. As the waiter clears your main course, you give him the signal. Softly, the entire restaurant beings to sing her favorite song. At first – she doesn’t notice – but as the music grows, she turns around. She looks back to find you down on one knee. As she nods “Yes!” the diners complete their serenade and toast to the newly-engaged couple!

Proposal Pointers: Music to her Ears

A few weekends ago I was lucky enough to catch Dan Donnelly, a Northern-Irish born, highly talented musician and member of a NYC-based band Sonovagun. I’m very selective of my music vendors (being a musician myself) and asked for Dan’s card. His card described him as a singer and songwriter which inspired this proposal idea…

Why not contact a local singer/songwriter to write a special tune for your special guy or gal? Just imagine having a song written especially for the two of you and your story… it makes the moment so personal! You can have the composer perform in the background while you’re down on one knee or have a recording playing for more intimate and private proposals. A special bonus…play the song at your wedding as your first dance song! Just think of how many girls have swooned over this scene from the Wedding Singer…
