Carol & Ed’s Shabby Chic Centerpieces

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Carol & Ed’s wedding date is fast approaching and we recently stopped by to see the super-talented, always inspired Glenn of Stem & Company to see the sample of their centerpieces. As you can see, the use of a variety of different vessels and the mixture of textures and hues really makes the centerpiece exude that “shabby chic” theme. The groom’s mother especially loved delicate sprig that was added to each place setting!

Linens shown are courtesy of Laurie of Cloth Connection, it was a tough decision between the linen shown here and a damask print but in the end, the violet pintuck you see below was the winner. We are so excited to be part of Carol & Ed’s special day!

Inspiration Board: White on White

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

We created this beautiful white-on-white inspiration board with the following elements in mind:  texture, warm lighting and keeping things friendly and inviting.  So often an all-white color palette can end up looking sterile and bland.  But, by ensuring that we included those 3 elements and adding color with the food and drink, the result is anything but boring!

A Brilliant Wedding: Thomas and Christina (2 of 3)

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Here are some more photos to feast your eyes on from this stunning fall wedding! Christina chose a classic bouquet of “Freedom” red roses to coordinate with the autumn color palette and gold boutonnieres for the groomsmen.  The entire inn was adorned with autumn decorations which complemented the vibrant colors on the trees surrounding the outdoor ceremony.

Florals to Drool Over: Rountree Flowers

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Check out these absolutely breathtaking flower arrangements from Jessie at Rountree Flowers. Yes, that’s Rountree – not Roundtree – she named her business after her Grandfather, Herman Rountree, an accomplished illustrator from Rhode Island.  Seems as though Herman’s talent was handed down to Jessie – I’m absolutely in love with the second bouquet – such unique colors!

Inexpensive Glass Vases

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

If you’ve been trolling the internet day and night for beautiful glass vases that don’t bust your budget – troll no more!  Check out CYS Excel.  Yes, their website looks a little shady, but you get great customer service, prompt delivery and good quality products.

They have all types of glass vases from tower vases to huge cylinder vases to giant glass jars for your candy bar at really really great prices.  It’s a bargain hunter’s (and event planner’s) dream!  One last tip – many times their website will say they’re sold out of an item…try giving them a call directly to see if they do have it in stock.  Chances are they have it and the website just hasn’t been updated yet!

Budget-Conscious Flowers

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

For most hosts and hostesses, the budget is a huge concern.  When it comes to flowers – don’t get discouraged!  Try this idea out:  first, find a florist that will do the arranging and storage only.  Then, order your flowers from an online wholesaler such as Blooms by the Box and have them delivered to your florist.  You’ll save a ton of money by purchasing the flowers at a much lower price and you’ll still get the professionals do to the arranging!

Still doesn’t fit in your budget?  Choose an inexpensive flower and  some vases from garage sales or a dollar store and arrange it yourself!  Our favorite is the Peruvian Lily (also called Alstroemeria) because you can purchase it in so many different colors and it’s very budget friendly!  Another suggestion is Gladiolus which gives your flower features beautiful height.  There’s always a way to give the impression of a huge floral budget for pennies!

Budget Bride Tips

Budget brides – you’re not alone! Check out this video from CNN on the trends of budget weddings and today’s economy.

One idea to help save is to have the lower layers of your cake be cardboard or styrofoam covered in fondant. The cake will look like the towering masterpiece you want, but without the giant pricetag. Your guests will have their pieces sliced from a sheet cake – far less expensive!

If that doesn’t appeal to you, take a suggestion from Jenna Bush and create the illusion of a taller cake by propping it up on a tall cake stand and filling it in with flowers.
