Gifts for Your Girls and Groomsmen

If you’re a summer bride looking to spice things up for your wedding party, you may be starting to think of unique gifts to your bridesmaids or groomsmen.  Lucky for you, the experts at Brilliant Event Planning have found some of the trendiest items for gift giving. Whether you’re popping the question or sharing a special day-of touch, we’ll show you how to ‘wow’ your wedding party!

How Charming

Who said girls can't have a little fun with 'proposing'? Ladies, if you're looking to bring a smile to your bridesmaid-to-be's face, try giving her a custom charm necklace or bracelet. Every time your lucky lady looks at this special gift, she'll think of the bond you two share and of course about your wedding day!  For the grooms, we suggest a gift that makes their best men and groomsmen recognizable by all the rest of the wedding.  We especially love these "Best Man" monogramed cufflinks, which come in many labels, including "Father of the Bride" and "Usher".

Perfect in a Pinch

A great gift for wedding party guests that is both cute and functional is a customized cosmetic bag, available from many pricy brands and artisan shops.  However, our favorite pouches for the wedding party to be able to use on your wedding day are these 'minimergency' kits by Pinch Provisions. Perfect for any day-of mishaps or traveling needs.  They even come in Bride, Bridesmaid, and Groom versions; oh and did we mention you can even build your own custom kit on their website?  With so many colors and iconic charms, you can't go wrong!

Bring on the Bubbly!

Your wedding party has no doubt been working very hard to make your special day the absolute best, why not reward them with a cocktail or two?  There are many websites that offer customized champagne labels for the ladies, including ones that ask "Will you be my bridesmaid?" For the men we suggest customized flasks or mugs, with each man's name on it and perhaps your wedding date.  Both gifts leave a lasting impression, and ensure your wedding day is off to a great start.

Sweep them off their feet

On your wedding day, you and your girls will be dressed to the nine's, we're guessing with some sky-high shoes included -- but every girl knows just how great it feels to kick off her heels at the end of a long day.  Brides, give the gift of comfort and try providing these packable, wearable flats for your bridesmaid to change into during the receptions, we bet they'll be thanking you later.  For the groomsmen, we love the idea of having all members wear the same socks, that the groom has personally picked out! The labels are customizable, and the matching scheme makes for adorable wedding photos.

Your wedding day is all about having fun and celebrating with the people you hold most near and dear.  Show your special someone's your appreciation with a one-of-a-kind gift, we promise your own personalization of whatever gift you choose will make for a truly *brilliant* affair.

Kiss that Cliché Proposal Goodbye!

Hey there love birds, planning on proposing? We at Brilliant Event Planning already showed you how to make your proposals pop,  now let us help you avoid the trap of the dreaded cliché proposal. Here are our Dos and Don’ts for sending you on your way to wedded bliss!

Do: Prep your man or lady properly

Whether you ultimately decide on bringing your significant other to dinner, or some other special event, it’s important to let them know that you two will be going somewhere special.  We guarantee your significant other will want to look extra spiffy the day they get proposed to, so make sure you accurately set up the situation, without giving anything away!

Don’t: Borrow your Playbook

While every hopeless romantic loves a good RomCom, don’t take the easy way out by copying a scene straight out of a movie or novel.  You want your significant other to feel special on this day, they deserve your own personal design!

Do: Do the Unexpected

We guarantee any fianceé-to-be would swoon over a unique proposal tailored just for them, but how about kicking it up a notch?  No one knows your significant other like you do, and now’s the time to prove it!  Think about what they love, what makes them tick, and find a way to incorporate your insider info and you may just catch him or her by surprise.

Don’t: Choose a Touristy Spot

Unless a particular landmark has special significance to the two of you as a couple, leave it out.  Especially in New York, there are thousands of proposals daily at spots like the Empire State Building, Times Square, etc. – save the crowds and choose a romantic scene that you’ve hand-picked.

Do: Have fun!

We know that proposing to your lady or man is a big step in your relationship, and we understand the nerves that come along with it! However, remember that this day is for both of you to start a new journey, focus on the beauty in this big moment and all the pressures will melt away!

Have a Plan

If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, it’s important to have a backup that is both thoughtful and feasible.  Before you even sign the contract with your venue, make sure that your Plan B can be executed by your venue, and is a scenario that honors the vision of your big day.  When rain pours down, it’s very possible that your Plan B will quickly become Plan A, make sure it’s something you love!

Know When to make the Rain Call

Weather forecasts can often be fickle, making it difficult to know when you should move your outdoor ceremony indoors.  Most assume that you can make the Rain Call within a half hour before the start of the ceremony, but this can lead to all kinds of problems with vendors: florists and rental companies need to know in advance where to set up, and some may even require a 24-hour advanced notice.  Check with your vendors and set a deadline for yourself for when to make the call, and be ready to stick to it!

Say Cheese!

Whether you have to move your location from outdoors, or already planned an indoor wedding, keep in mind that rainfall does stop. If you’re feeling adventurous, snag those few minutes of sunshine and take some outdoor wedding photos that are sure to be memorable.

Bring the Rainwear

If you know in advance that your wedding day forecast calls for a drizzle, perhaps you’ll want to go ahead with the outdoor ceremony and add a twist!  Surprise and delight your guests with rain boots and umbrellas as unique wedding favors, that are both useful and adorable!

Whatever your preference may be for your big day, don’t the let weather put a damper. Take control and plan ahead, and you're sure to have a truly *brilliant* wedding!

Preserving Your Bouquet from the Big Day!

One question we get asked a bunch at Brilliant Event Planning is how brides can best preserve their wedding bouquets. Some clients may choose to go with a professional service to flash freeze their bouquets, while other brides opt for at-home methods. Brilliant Event Planning shares their advice on choosing the perfect method. Recently Updated

There are several advantages to choosing to flash freeze your bouquet.  This method, while time-consuming, leaves your flowers looking as fresh as the day you carried them down the aisle. The freezing process done by a professional typically takes about two weeks time, but can take longer if you purchase a mounting or display package.  This option starts at a cost of about $200, and can run up to as much as $500 depending on the mounting package.  Once deciding to go with the flash freezing method, professionals recommend sending your bouquet in immediately after the wedding day.  In order to ensure the freshest possible flowers, arrangements for your bouquet to be flash frozen should be made in advance of the wedding date.  If you are not able to deliver your bouquet to be frozen immediately after the wedding date, cut an inch off of all the stems and place your flowers in the refrigerator until you can deliver them to the freezing service.

For our clients, we recommend our favorite company to use for professionally freezing our brides’ bouquets: Freeze Frame It!

Hiring a service to flash freeze your bouquet has the benefit of having trained professionals product you’re sure to love!  The drawback is that this option can become costly quickly. For crafty brides on a budget, we suggest DIY preserving with silica gel.  While the traditional method has long been to air dry flowers, this often leaves bouquets turning brown and brittle, with little resemblance to their original beauty.  With the silica gel method, your bouquet will look good as new!  All you’ll need to get started is a large box, Activa Silica Gel, and your bouquet! Check out the full tutorial here.

Proposals that Pop!

Getting ready to pop the question? We at Brilliant Event Planning love proposals! Here’s some advice from our expert Proposal Planner, Sarah Glick, on how to create the perfect proposal backdrop they can’t say no to.

Make it Personal

When planning a proposal for our clients, we engage in an extensive interview process to uncover the essence and heart of the couple’s love story.  When planning your own proposal, you’ll want to consider all the key factors of your relationship: everything from the details of your first date to favorite hobbies and music.  Think about what binds you two together as a couple, and what makes your love story unique!  Creating an aesthetically beautiful backdrop is of course worthwhile, but making the proposal personal is what creates the lasting memory we promise your bride or groom-to-be will never forget.  For some inspiration, see how our fairytale obsessed couple created their ever after:

Go BIG!

One factor about creating a proposal backdrop you may not have considered is to make sure your backdrop stands tall in height, especially if you plan to have a photographer present.  Logistically, you want your backdrop to stand taller than you and your significant other’s own height, so that the backdrop can be seen in photos -  no matter which angle the photographer stands from. Plus, an oversized backdrop really transforms the space and surrounds you in the personalized scene you created.  Our client Ian made sure to make his love scroll stand out against the backdrop of New York City, so that his now-fiance Lauren could be enveloped in flowers and Ian’s own personal love letter to her. It’s All in the Details

I’m sure you’ve guessed by now that we at Brilliant Event Planning have a soft spot for details. First and foremost, details are important because they create the atmosphere of personalization we mentioned before. Paying attention to the smallest of pieces from your love story’s puzzle creates a better and more personal picture.  Details are also important for giving your significant other multiple elements to examine after you pop the question and prolong the moment.  Philip prepared a Shakespearean journey to propose to Jenni: the two walked through Central Park in the rain where Jenni found a wooden chest. Inside Philip had included flower seed packets with love notes written on them. Philip even engraved the chest with his own personalized message for their future as husband and wife! The smile on Jenni’s face says it all.

Whether it be glasses of champagne served shortly after you get down on one knee or love letters written on paper airplanes for a pilot’s proposal, our suggestions are sure to set your proposal apart and make this moment truly *brilliant*!

A big thank you to Mikkel Paige Photography for the amazing proposal photos for Dana and Jason, and Jessica and Ian, and to Blue Daisy for providing the perfect paparazzi photos for Jenni and Philip.  Beautiful flowers for Lauren and Ian's proposal were provided by The Arrangement.

Wedding Trends for 2016

As we at Brilliant Event Planning dive into the new year, we’re keeping an eye on upcoming wedding trends for 2016, and you can too! From colors to food, you can expect a major shift to more nature-inspired and romantic touches in all things bridal. A major hit from the start of the new year that we expect to carry into the new year in Pantone’s 2016 Color of the Year, Rose Quartz and Serenity.  This romantic mix of blush and blue is sure to make it's way into wedding invites and much more!

Another color trend we can look forward to is the incorporation of metallics, particularly in fashion and decor.  Metallic tones are also the perfect compliment to the romantic touches brides are sure to add. We expect to see an increase in the use of hanging chandeliers and edison bulbs, as well as candelabras adorning centerpieces.

Along with romantic themes of wedded bliss, 2016 will see brides unleash their inner wild side by returning to nature. Major trends that will utilize both organic and simplistic touches include wildflower bridal bouquets, often incorporating hand-picked flowers and even organic food items, and ‘naked’ wedding cakes, which opt out of buttercream frosting shells and expose the cake’s underlying structure.

Lastly, we at Brilliant Event Planning predict that a major trend to hit 2016 weddings will be the theme of personalization.  Of course every couple seeks to make their big day their own, but the theme of personalization will become increasingly prolific in the form of individual social media hashtags and polaroid cameras for guests.

A popular trend for foodie couples will be to add personal cocktail and food pairings, to reflect individual personalities or even special memories.  My personal favorite is for couples who love to vacation: a one-bite-taco and margarita shooter combo is sure to hit the spot!
